POPULATION, DISTRIBUTION AND LIFE CYCLE

There are very few Giant Pandas left in the whole world. The few that are left are found in either mountain ranges or Bamboo forests. To be more specific In China. In the wild there are around 1000 (one thousand) left. In captivity there are around 150 left. The reason the population is so low is probably because of de-forestation of Bamboo forests.

A male and female Panda must breed in order to have babies. After mating, the female panda takes between 95-160 days to give birth. The female Panda will give birth to one or two baby Pandas. The mother can only take care of one baby at a time therefore the second baby Panda usually does not live. In captivity the Giant Panda lives to about 35 years. However in the wild, the Giant Panda only lives around 14-20 years of age. The mother Panda teaches her baby to walk, climb, fend for itself ect. When the Pandas are around three years old the mother leaves the baby to lead a life of its own.
